2009 annual CalNeva Chapter meeting The 2009 annual CalNeva Chapter meeting time and place have been set! Please join us at the fabulous Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa from April 1st through the 4th 2009. Check out the venue at www.vineyardcreek.hyatt.com . This year’s theme is “Thinking Outside the Stream”. “Thinking outside the box” is defined as “thinking differently, unconventionally, from a new perspective” and often refers to novel, creative and smart thinking. So the global challenge to us is to expand our knowledge base and apply a multidisciplinary approach to get the information we need to manage our fisheries resources wisely, and on a smaller scale to expand our knowledge outside the sometimes narrow path our specific careers have led us down, and open our minds to new and innovative science.

**Registration Information Coming In January** First Call for Papers And Symposium Topics Aquatic resource professionals are invited to submit session proposals and abstracts for papers in a range of topics and disciplines. Participation by scientists at all levels and backgrounds, including students, is encouraged. The scientific program will include technical sessions and/or symposia. These will include oral sessions organized to focus on a single topic. Contributed papers (oral presentations on any relevant topic) and poster submissions will also be accepted. Topics for technical sessions will be formed based on initial submissions, and may be used to refine a second call for papers based on response. This year's poster session will again include a round of "speed presentations" provided by poster authors to 'advertise' their posters. These < 3 minute presentations will allow conference attendees to preview posters topics, and inspire interest in attending the poster session. The Program Committee also invites proposals for symposia from individuals or groups. Symposia may be presented as oral presentations, posters, or both. Topics should be related to the meeting theme or be of general interest to AFS members. Those interested in organizing symposia should contact Michelle Workman (mworkman@ebmud.com). INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION General Instructions: An individual may not be listed as senior author on more than two abstracts (one oral and one poster), but may be listed as a co-author on any abstract. This rule applies to all presentations. * Presentations should be based on original work. Abstracts must contain sufficient information to convey the main theme, objectives, results, and conclusions of the work. Submitted abstracts must include the following information in this order: 1. Title (in appropriate upper and lower case and using as few words as possible), 2. Author(s) names as they should appear in the abstract book; full affiliation and mailing address; and phone, fax, and email address. 3. Denote presenter's name in bold 4. Abstract text (all one paragraph, no more than 300 words) 5. 5 key words 6. Presentation preference (oral or poster), * All submissions must be sent as Microsoft Office Word or as an rtf file. For consistency please use Times New Roman 12 pt font. Submissions will be evaluated on relevance to the subject, originality, quality of writing, and adherence to required guidelines. * Before submitting an abstract, authors should be confident that they will attend the meeting. If cancellation is necessary, please contact the Program Committee Chair immediately. * All abstracts for the contributed and poster sessions must be submitted by e-mail to mworkman@ebmud.com no later than 5:00 PM (Pacific time) January 23, 2009.
If you would like to help with meeting coordination, the Chapter could use your help. Please contact Michelle Workman mworkman@ebmud.com if you are interested in helping out.
